Anja Hilling is one of the most successful German playwrights of her generation.

After studying literature and theater, she was admitted to the Berlin University of the Arts, where she studied stage writing from 2002 to 2006 while working in a bar. Her first play, Sterne (Stars, 2003), earned her an invitation to the Berlin Theatertreffen and the Dresdner Bank's Best New Playwright Award. In the same year, she took up a writing residency at the Royal Court Theatre in London. Her tragicomedy Mein junges idiotisches Herz (My heart so young so crazy) was performed at the Mühlheimer Theatertage in 2005. In the same year, Anja Hilling was named "Young Playwright of the Year" in the magazine Theater heute.
